Many states in the USA are seeing a sudden increase in coronavirus cases. Experts explained why COVID-19 cases are spiking this much and they have more than one reason. The states of the USA, NewYork, and Chicago have a surge in the spreading of the virus and have begun reopening. But the situation of the rest of the states in the countries is not the same.

The rapidly increasing number of cases in Arizona has diverted the attention of lawmakers from the protests after the death of George Floyd to the pandemic. Apart from Arizona, states like South Carolina, Florida, Alaska, Arkansas, California, Kentucky, New Mexico, North Carolina, Mississippi, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Puerto Rico have also seen a big spike in coronavirus cases.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D.N.Y., has asked for members of the administration’s Coronavirus Task Force, specifically naming Anthony Fauci and Deborah Birx, to conduct a briefing for Democratic senators next week on the spike in cases in Arizona and elsewhere across the USA, according to his office.

What do experts say?

Arnold Monto, professor of epidemiology at the University of Michigan School for Public Health says that “This virus is much more spotty. It is so complicated that when people give you a simple answer to this, it’s probably not right.” Even though experts don’t have one proper reason to explain this spike in pandemic cases and they remarked that the uplifting of restrictions and reopening are the main reasons.

According to the latest updates, around 2 million people are infected in the USA by a coronavirus. This states that the experts’ remarks are correct. Trump’s administration has announced the guidelines to reopen the country and market since April. The guidelines included a 14-day decline of confirmed coronavirus cases or a decline of positive tests as a percent of total tests within that period.

The state of the USA, Florida started its first phase of reopening in the second week of May without meeting a 14-days decline in cases as per the guidelines announced by Trump’s administration. Actually, the state reported an increase in cases before reopening the first phase. On May 10, Florida reports 594 cases and on May 15, reports 1394 cases.

That is, around 800 more cases than of May 10. The Government did not take any measures to stop his social spreading and reopened the second phase on June 5. This increased the cases and reached thousands per day. Florida Department of Health has reported 1698 cases on June 11, Thursday. This reported the largest single-day increase in the state since the pandemic began. Experts said that this spike in cases is an expected result of the state reopening.

The Government gave priority to stabilize its economy than urging residents to redouble precautions to prevent the social spreading of the virus. Dr. Jeffrey Shaman, professor of environmental health at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health said that

“Georgia is notably not on the list of states where cases are on the rise”. This is because of the strict restrictions and preventing measures took by the government to put a barrier for social spreading.
