How To Get Rid Of Orange Hair? – Home Remedies
What if one day you go to a salon to get yourself a golden bleached streak in your hair and, to your horror, you find that your hair has turned into a brassy or orange color. How will you remove this orange color from your hair? To find a remedy for this orange hair issue, let us first understand the concept of orange hair or how the hair of a person becomes orange in color?
When people color their hair regularly, they find that shades of orange, brass, or red develop over time. These brassy tones spread unevenly through the hair giving it an orange-brassy appearance that may not be visually appealing.
Reasons Behind The Hair Of A Person Turning To Orange Color
When people with dark brown called brunettes or people with dark-colored hair tend to lighten their hair or bleach their hair, the natural pigment, which is often the undertone of orange or red, stays put or remains. These undertones upon showing up are known as brassy or orange. A heavy build-up of minerals or products containing sulfates makes the light-colored hair look yellow or orange. In most cases, where people like to lighten their hair color, they end up with orange or brassy tones of color in their hair.
Ways to get rid of orange hair – Some remedies
Here are some of the ways to fix orange or brassy hair. Remove the orange shades from your hair naturally and right at home. We need to neutralize the hair dye so that the orange and yellow undertones get removed. So, let’s try the following ways :
1. Using baking soda
Things you’ll need:
- Half a teaspoon of purple food coloring
- Half a teaspoon of blue food coloring
- A teaspoon of baking soda
- A sulfate-free shampoo
- Bowl
- Stirring stick
Method:
Take a bowl and add more than the required amount of sulfate-free shampoo. A little more will always help. Then add the purple food coloring and blue food coloring to it and stir well. Add to it one teaspoon of baking soda and again mix well to remove any lumps. Apply this shampoo to the orange hair and leave it for around 10 to 12 minutes and rinse off with enough water. Apply conditioner to restore the moisture.
Remember to take a sulfate-free shampoo. If you do not have purple food color, add a little red color to the blue food coloring, and you will get the purple shade. Be careful with the whole procedure.
2. Using a toner
Things you will need:
- A quality conditioner
- Semi-permanent violet hair dye
- A hair dye applicator or brush
- Bowl
- Gloves
Method:
Semi-permanent or temporary hair dye can help to correct hair coloring when used in small doses. Take a bowl and pour a good quantity of hair conditioner. Taking double the portion than you use is always better. Then add violet color semi-permanent hair dye in small amounts till you get a light purple Hue. Mix it well. Wear hand gloves and apply this mixture to your hair and let it sit for at least an hour. Then give it a simple rinse and wash it normally. The purple hair dye will help in neutralizing the orange hair color.
Remember, while pouring in or mixing the violet hair dye, don’t pour it in huge quantities but rather keep adding small amounts to get that light purple hue. One needs to be cautious that we do not need to color the hair violet but only use it to neutralize the orange hair color.
3. Using tea leaves
Things you will need:
- Three teabags
- 2 cups of water
- A pot to boil water
Method:
Take a pot and start to boil water in it. Add all three tea bags to this boiling water. Keep boiling the water till the color of the water turns dark brown or black. Leave it aside to cool before applying it. Once the water cools, remove the tea bags, massage this water into your scalp, and apply it to the colored hair. Leave it aside for around half an hour, and then rinse it with water. The tea will enhance the texture and the color of the hair, leaving a delicate tea scent in your hair.
