Follow regular oral and general health care routine
It is even more important to follow an established regular health care routine during pregnancy. It is imperative never to miss brushing teeth twice a day and rinsing the mouth after every meal.
Teeth and gums should be regularly inspected to rule out any cavity or germ buildup. The tongue should be cleaned once or twice a day with a plastic tongue cleaner. Oral ulcers should be avoided by keeping out impurities from the blood and avoiding stomach illnesses.
Some herbal preparations are recommended during pregnancy to maintain blood purity and relieve the distress of rising hormone levels. These comprise mostly of herbs that provide micronutrient cleansers and are generally safe for consumption during pregnancy.
Attend regular dental checkups
During pregnancy, women are more concerned about maternal health and the health of the fetus. Hence though they may keep appointments with their gynecologists due to dental checkups are often procrastinated.

Place clove near the affected tooth
Clove oil can relieve toothache. Clove oil also strengthens gums and the grip of gums on teeth. Placing a clove near the affected tooth can help in stopping the ache. It is also a good idea to use clove-based toothpaste and massage gums with clove oil.
Make a choice of mouth fresheners
Some women chew mouth freshener gums after meals to bring out sticky particles and maintain mouth freshness. If there is no jaw trouble, there is no harm in chewing gums.
Freshener gums can attach to very small granules and micro cleanses the mouth and these are also good for jaw exercise.
Fenugreek seeds are natural mouth fresheners. Chewing a teaspoonful of fenugreek seeds after meals has beneficial effects on the oral environment.
