Woman Shopping Without A Mask At Trader Joe’s Caused A Scene

Twitter user D. Giles who goes by @ItsRellzWorld posted several videos of a woman shopping without a mask at a California Trader Joe’s causing a scene in the shop by calling employees “Democratic pigs” and screaming profanities. The video is believed to have taken place at the grocer’s newest location in North Hollywood during its opening day. One of the videos went viral Saturday with more than 3.6 million views. From June 18, California started requiring masks or face coverings to be worn inside businesses statewide. The woman said in the video, “That man harassed me for not wearing a mask. I have a breathing problem, my doctor will not let me wear a mask. So anyone harassing me to wear a mask, you guys are violating federal law.” Someone who was in the shop when the incident went on commented that the woman took her mask off after she entered the store, and walked around with a basket but not putting anything into it. Instead, she was roaming the aisles and getting up in people’s faces, getting as close as possible, and waiting for someone to inevitably tell her to put her mask back on.

When an employee finally that, she was being super aggressive. The company said, “It is our preference for and we strongly encourage customers to wear a mask or face covering while shopping in all our stores. Where face coverings are required by state or local authorities, we communicate that to our customers as well.” The woman in the video screams that she has breathing problems and her doctor recommended to not to wear masks. But people who watched the video commented that those who have respiratory problems should probably be more worried about catching the Coronavirus and should wear a mask.

Is it tough to breathe through a mask?

The Californian state government says on their website that public health officials now require Californians to wear masks or cloth face coverings in most settings outside the home. But this created huge controversy as some people believe that it is tough to breathe while wearing a mask and it will cause problems for people with respiratory issues.

According to the American Lung Association, the masks are designed to be breathed through and there is no evidence that low oxygen levels occur.

The incident of the woman raised discussions about do people with preexisting lung problems should wear masks. The discussions check whether wearing a face mask for prolonged periods of time would cause someone to experience significant reductions in oxygen intake level, resulting in hypoxemia. But the studies and experts found that there was no evidence to support this as both cloth and surgical masks are unlikely to cause a dangerous drop in oxygen intake because they are not tight fitting.

Experts also opinioned that wearing masks doesn’t cause any serious health issues. Many viral social media posts claim that masks can cause brain damage, headaches, and high blood pressure by reducing a person’s oxygen intake to dangerous levels.

An anti-mask group in America is believed to have created the face mask exempt cards, which claim the holder is exempt from wearing a mask.
